Hello, I am Marissa Acevedo and I am delighted to be joining the WOW Network Alliance. Before joining Mary Kay, my previous occupation was in the Corporate Airline Industry. A very good friend invited me out to a Saturday morning Brunch being hosted by a National Sales Director of Mary Kay. The location of the brunch was one of Atlanta’s finest, the Country Club of the South.

I never once placed any prior judgment about the company or their products. I was simply excited to be going to the Country Club of the South. Once I arrived, amazement set in as I watched so many fabulous and professional women in one venue. I quickly became more intrigued about the opportunity and the products. I began imagining myself growing in this business due to my love for fashion & make-up. At the time, I was coming out of divorce from a very abusive relationship and was struggling to get child support. My immediate thought process was this could be my ship waiting to sail me out of my current condition. I thought this would be a great opportunity to do what I have always loved while gaining an extra income. But, most importantly it would enable me to help other women who may be trying to get out of an abusive situation and build their self-confidence. I became more excited about being able to give back to a cause greater than my own.

The more I learned about this company the more focused I became. The one known fact that really touched my heart was learning that Mary Kay donates millions of dollars to Cancer Research Centers and Domestic Violence Shelters. Additionally, the support, and warm fuzzy feeling you receive from all of our sisterhood MK consultants is exactly what the doctor ordered given the challenges that I was growing through during that time. It's quite empowering to know that your MK girls are there for you when you need them most, along with excellent training.

I have been a consultant with the Company for 8+ years now and have a large consistently growing customer base. A recent lay off as a full time legal assistant due to the economy, is now affording me greater opportunities to build the dream team I have always envisioned. Building a business in an industry that I am passionate about is the icing on the cake.  Joining the WOW Network affords additional opportunities directly supporting my goals for reaching success with women who want something more in their lives. We are ready to make it happen. We are ready to make a difference!

Did you ever notice that some people just have a glowing complexion? It is not their makeup that gives them that glow it is the canvas on which they started. A great complexion that has a natural glow starts with proper skin care and a healthy diet.

The condition of your skin can be a good indicator of your overall health. For instance a poor diet and bad habits such as smoking and too much alcohol can lead to a dull complexion, baggy eyes and even a yellowish tint. Additionally an improper skin care routine or no skin care program at all can lead to premature wrinkles, sagging skin and patches of dry skin.

So what are the steps to brighten a dull complexion? First and foremost understanding your skin type is the first step for proper skin care. By understanding your skin type, i.e. dry, combination, oily, sensitive, you can begin to select the right ingredients that are the most beneficial to your skin.

Cleansers - Get a facial cleanser specific to your skin type. Your skin care cleanser should thoroughly cleanse but not over dry the face. If after washing your face your skin is overtly dry and tight, you should consider a different skin care cleanser. Usually a dry skin type should select creamy cleansers, oily complexions should consider a foaming face wash, for sensitive skin and combination skin types consider a cleanser that has a low pH of 7 or less.

Toners - are used to restore ph balance and remove the last bits of cleanser left behind. I am a firm believer in toners. If purchasing a toner be sure to select the one that is right for your skin type and has the most natural ingredients. Apply toner with a cotton ball or pad and do not rinse.

Moisturizers - should be used to hydrate and protect the skin. A daytime moisturizer should have an SPF of at least 15, and your nighttime moisturizer should be rich in emollients. Not matter what skin type you have a moisturizer is a must; dry skin needs lubrication and hydration and oily skin needs hydration.

Cleanse, tone and moisturize are the basics of a good skin care routine in order to brighten a dull complexion. Additionally there are other treatments that can be used that promote circulation, slough off dead skin cells and bring a natural glow to your face.

Exfoliation - is a method of removing the dead skin cells on the upper layer of your skin and increasing circulation to promote new skin cells. Once used only in exclusive spas at a costly amount, exfoliation is a simple technique that you can do at home. These will surely brighten a dull complexion and leave your skin feeling smooth and silky.

Microderamabrasion - is a form of advance exfoliation. The actual surface layer of the skin is removed and new skin cells are exposed. The type of procedure will lessen the appearance of scars and dark spots on the skin. There are a variety of microdermabrasion products on the market.

AHAs and BHAs known as Alpha and Beta hydroxyl acids - are very popular in anti-aging products. They work very much like a microdermabrasion treatment as they slough off the top layers of the skin thus promoting new skin cell growth. Another added benefit is that they stimulate the production of collagen and elasticity in the skin. When selecting an Alpha or Beta hydroxyl acid be sure to select the right one for your skin type.

A good skin care routine and one of the exfoliation methods listed above will help promote a healthy glow; however, it is imperative that you eat healthy too. Your complexion can tell a lot about your life style and eating habits. Additionally, your diet and skin care products should contain anti-oxidants such as Vitamin A, E, C, and beta carotene to name a few.

Hope you will stop by and check out all of my other post here on the WOW Network Alliance!

      Hello Ladies,

You may still be in a summertime state of mind, but your busy fall schedule is kicking back into gear whether you're ready or not. I've got some quick makeup tips, which will help you get out the door looking like you woke up on time! LOL!

      Makeup in Minutes:

The goal of a five-minute makeup look is to look well-groomed and rested. "Aim to create a brighter, fresher appearance as though you've had eight wonderful hours of uninterrupted sleep."

So, you want to start with the basics. Look for multitasking formulas like a tinted moisturizer that has SPF." These are life savers when you're in a pinch. Eye colors should be neutral,
soft, and subtle to best enhance and flatter your complexion. For the most wearable look, textures should be neutral: not too matte or too dewy. A light shimmer on the eyes has a brightening effect that will counteract any tiredness, but those with more mature skin should use and eye shadow primer to smooth out eyelid skin."

This speedy makeover works best upon reaching your destination after a long trip or right before heading off to an important meeting. "Pat cream blush into the apples of your cheeks, dot concealer under your eyes, curl your lashes, and apply a coat of waterproof mascara. Top it off with lip gloss, a punchier shade looks great in bright daylight."

Stay tuned for more beauty tips! And remember, we all need a little pick-me-up, and that includes our skin!

      Hello Ladies!  I'm BACK!!!

Let's face it. Life happens, and sometimes it's almost impossible to feel pretty!  We are living in times of instant gratification and it just makes for busy lives!

At this time in your life you may be busy with school, work, kids, and social activities, the list could go on and on, but don't forget we must take care of YOU!

Now, before you start slathering a bunch of  skin products on your face, I wanted to start with beauty from the inside out!  Because that's where the beauty starts!  It's important to work from the inside out when keeping skin looking younger and healthier.  Start now with a commitment to get eight hours of undisturbed sleep and eight glasses of water a day. Skip the fast food and aim for five daily servings of fruits and vegetables and sources of folic acid, important for women who plan to have children some day. Keep your daily exercise a habit.

It'll pay off both now and later!

The key to start healing your skin is to start by quieting your mind and schedule at least 15 minutes of "me" time every day! Go to the gym, take a warm bath, meditate, or schedule girlfriend time. "Anything to lower your stress and keep your heart, mind, and skin healthy."

Ways to take care of Combination skin with oily T-zones:

For Combination skin, it's important to care for it consistently to remove dirt and oils, then replace moisture stripped away in the cleansing process. This also will help keep the dry skin areas moisturized and prevent dehydration.  Meanwhile, it will help restore the balance of oily skin areas, like the T-zone.  Combination skin can seem daunting to care for, but all you need is  a specially designed skin care regimen proven to work and help you achieve balanced skin with powerful antioxidants. As you age, environmental factors like sun exposure, as well as your genetics, will contribute to many changes you'll see in your skin. You'll want to apply sunscreen daily year-round. It will help protect your skin against harmful UVA/UVB rays that may contribute to the signs of aging.

No matter what your age, flawless, radiant skin is what you want. And you can get it with the recommended products formulated for your skin type and your specific needs!  Well, that's all for now, stay tuned for more Beauty from the Inside Out!

Hello Ladies, I told you I would be back with more great beauty tips! Well, something very special ran across my mind and "Poof" there it was.....You know as Mothers and Busy Entrepreneurs, we are always nurturing others, so I thought why not take time out to nurture "YOU."

      Beauty from the Inside Out!

You wonder during a commercial when a famous actor comes on with her famous grin, hawks a new skin cream by flexing her well-toned biceps. Muscles selling moisturizers? The spot, for L'Oréal Paris Age-Perfect Pro-Calcium Restorative Hydrating Cream, links bone-building with skin-boosting. Right, the calcium undefined and other vitamins undefined are good-for-skin story. But don't tune out: The story becomes more intriguing. Vitamins and supplements are now the fastest-growing segment of the antiaging skin-care market. While cosmetics companies have offered vitamin-enriched creams and serums for several years now, the latest trend is to focus on the pill itself. Leading brands like Kinerase, Olay, and N. V. Perricone M.D. have all introduced beauty capsules, claiming they can do from the inside what a cream can't do from the outside. The right beauty vitamin, believes Rachel West, a California-based osteopath, "can get your inner body functioning at an optimal level, which is then reflected in your skin, hair, and nails."

"The data keeps pouring in every day about the benefits of supplements," says Nicholas Perricone, M.D., a dermatologist and author of The Wrinkle Cure. Also a cosmeceutical pioneer with a highly successful product line, Perricone began his business with multivitamin packs and omega-3 capsules and has expanded into antioxidant powders, mushroom extracts, and peptide blends. He believes skin ages as a result of low-grade inflammation on the cellular level. Supplements, he says, can help combat this inflammation.

Despite their virtues, vitamins and supplements are considered food, not drugs, and therefore they are not regulated by the FDA. Still, it's hard to dismiss the extensive studies being presented within the dermatological community that reinforce the case for their skin-boosting abilities. A recent one in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology reported that some people who took vitamins C and E in the long term saw a reduction in visible premature aging.

And let's not rule out along with a good skin-care regimen!
That's it ladies, stay tuned for more beauty tips!

      Hello Ladies,

Well, I'm back again with some great tips for healthy skin, here are just a few to get you started! Please be sure to check back for more, while we make our journey to improving ourselves from the inside and out! Enjoy!

How can I "detox" my skin and get rid of impurities?

As we all know, beautiful skin comes from within, and detoxifying our bodies means detoxifying our skin. In addition to the obvious, such as avoiding alcohol and cigarettes and eating healthy, I suggest drinking natural juices every day. My favorites are fresh-squeezed vegetable juices with kale, spinach, green apple, red lettuce, cucumber, beets, and celery. Also, always wash your face before bedtime, apply a moisturizer, and treat your skin according to its type.

Is it possible to over-exfoliate my skin?

Exfoliating dead skin cells is important for smooth, radiant, healthy skin. However, exfoliating too much or too aggressively can damage the epidermis, causing inflammation to the skin. A good regimen would include two-three times a week for oily skin types and no more than once a week for sensitive, dry skin.

What's the best way to get a healthy, glowing complexion?

      1. Use quality skincare
      2. Drink a lot of water, white tea, and avoid alcohol.
      3. Try to get a full-night's sleep - seven to eight hours
      4. Eat healthy..
      5. Daily exercise, even if it's just for a stroll around the block.
      6. Don't stress - just relax.
      7. Protect skin from the sun by using moisturizers that contain SPF
      8. If you have sensitive skin, don't over-exfoliate. Instead,
concentrate on areas that really need it.

      And last but not least!

Surround yourself with fun, amusing friends and laugh a lot - this
      is GREAT for your skin!

A good skin-care regimen can make your complexion look radiant, smooth, and clear.  But before you can pick the right products for your individual needs, it's important to know your skin type.  "Your skin type is determined by a combination of genetics and external factors."  "You don't have control over your genes, but the good news is that when you treat everthing else, it can make a big difference."  Other things can effect your skin type: harmonal flunctiations, stress, sun exposure, pollution, drinking, smoking, and medications. Today, I would like to touch on the subject of oily skin, since we are in the middle of summer heat and this can be extra annoying for our oily skin ladies!

Oily skin results when the sebaceous glands produce too much oil, giving skin a shiny appearance.  Sometimes a greasy or sticky feel remains for several hours after cleansing.  It is also characterized by larger pores than other skin types and is more prone to breakouts, clogged pores and blemishes.  Oily skin may tend to wrinkle less readily than drier skin types. The large amount of oil on the skin's surface helps the upper layers retain water and protects the skin from environmental causes of dryness.

It may seem counterintuitive, but oily skin needs moisturizing, especially if you've been using acne treatments. Most topical acne creams and cleansers contain ingredients that can dry out your skin, which, in turn, can trigger inflammation and cause more breakouts. Your best bet is to use a moisturizer that doesn't contain oil and that's noncomedogenic. It won't clog your pores, and you'll be getting the moisture you need.

For Oily skin you want a product that will help control surface oilines, leaving skin feeling smooth and looking radiant.  Deep clean pore openings of impurities and oily buildup.  This will help makeup stay fresher longer.

Woman love to spend tons of money on clothes, shoes, purses & accessories, but not on a good skin care regimen!! LOL We have to look good all the way around including our inner and outer beauty and as busy women we need a great skin care regimen and less time in the mirror to take care of one of the most important parts of our body, the skin!!

That's why it is so important to have a skin care regimen that works with the natural process of your skin.  The natural aging process of the skin usually begins in our 20s.  As the skin ages the renewal rate slows.  It becomes drier, less firm, and less radiant. External factors such as sun exposure and environmental stresses like pollution can often accelerate the skin's aging process.  The great news about skin is that it is constantly regenerating itself!  I would like to touch on the subject of the epidermis and the dermis.  The  epidermis slows the rate of moisture loss from the lower layer.  It also contains pigment-producing cells that give skin its color and can  contribute to an uneven skin tone.  In a continual four-week cycle, living cells move from the bottom of the epidermis to the surface of the skin.  The dermis is the inner layer of the skin.  It's composed of collagen and elastin fibers that support the vital components of the skin. When this  layer is hydrated, the skin looks younger and more supple.
