For eighten years I worked in a high end, fast paced corporate environment that left me feeling drained and depleted of all my life energy.

I spent a good part of my life just sleep walking throughout my day, feeling dazed and disoriented, eating foods that weren’t particularly good for me, watching too much TV and paying little attention, if any at all, to my health and well-being. I slowly felt my self-esteem slipping into the woodwork, as my body became tired, drained, lethargic and apathetic. I began to feel completely devoid of any meaning or higher purpose.

With all the external pressures and pervasive messages to climb the corporate ladder in order to have more, get more and achieve more, it eventually took its toll on my peace of mind, body and spirit.  This way of merely surviving was out of balance and lacked harmony with my true wants, desires and dreams. Life for me held little meaning as I continued to fall prey to self-sabotaging thoughts and habits that all led towards poor lifestyle choices. I wanted to find a better way of being and I wanted to live my life in a way that promoted a healthier lifestyle.

Knowing that I had to find a better way of becoming both professionally, physically and emotionally in order to establish a lifestyle that was more congruent with my innermost wants and desires, I decided to make a drastic change and leave Corporate America and set out on a new journey.  Without looking back I mustered up enough courage to quit my corporate job of eighteen years and all the security that went along with it and enrolled myself into Bryan College where I studied health and fitness. It was there that I obtained certification as a Health and Fitness Professional and then went on to work as a Personal Trainer for one of the leading health clubs in the greater Sacramento area of Northern California.  I gained valuable experience working as a Personal Trainer by working one on one with individuals from all walks of life, varying levels of fitness and health related components.  Today I own my own business as a Lifestyle Modification Coach.  I do what I love by expressing myself through coaching and inspiring others to achieve a lifestyle that promotes health and well-being as a better way of life. ~Gena

The greatest work that each of us can undertake each day is our own inner work and self development. We need to begin the process of truly knowing ourselves deeply. We need to detect our largest values and then define how we wish to conduct our life.

Inner discovery is a lifelong journey and our work here on Earth and it is never done till our last breath. Always be true to yourself.

Who we are as a people and the way we show up in life says it all. Let’s strive to become self leaders by accepting all the lessons that this life school is presenting to us. All these lessons are here to evolve us into our authentic and best self. When we act in ways that aren’t congruent with who we truly are then we’re out of integrity. When we live our best lives, our true lives, our authentic lives, we become all of our radiant and shining brilliance. To become whole is to become healthy.

Breaking a negative habit or starting a positive one happens in two stages: First, making the desired change; second, maintaining the change. Patterns tend to reassert themselves unless you can maintain the new pattern long enough for it to become familiar and a direct part of you.

The key to change is keeping it simple: A little bit of something is better than a lot of nothing. You are more likely to do and continue doing, what is convenient and simple.

If you don't exercise every day but would like to start, then get up tomorrow morning and remember to do one jumping jack; then the next morning do another jumping jack; and then the next morning and then the next. That one jumping jack every day is a profound step in the right direction, because it gets your foot in the door--you are forming the habit of dedicating a portion of your day, no matter how small, to exercise. The following month you may decide to trade in your daily jumping jack for a brisk walk around the block or two minutes of free-form movement and deep breathing. To Transform your life, begin simply, begin each day by being "Thankful", its a small little foot in the door. ~Gena, Personal Health & Fitness Coach

In order to create a lifestyle of true happiness, balance and well being you first must journey deep down inside yourself. The answer lies deep within where no one else is looking but you. Happiness is not just something that comes to you; it’s something you choose to create for yourself. Waiting for something to happen or change in order to be happy is putting your life on permanent hold. It is not what happens to you that counts but instead how you choose to “react” and “handle” what happens to you that really matters. It’s your attitude of gratitude that sets the foundation for the rest of your life. When you adopt a positive attitude and are grateful for what already “is” then life becomes much more rewarding and fulfilling instead of just something you simply endure.

Positive emotions give you energy and vitality, while negative emotions completely drain and deplete your life force. When you are excited and happy and living life to its fullest, you radiate with energy and enthusiasm. When you are feeling angry, resentful, or negative for any reason, you feel drained, frustrated and eventually burn out and lose all your life energy. Feelings and emotions are very normal and serve various purposes. For example, anger, guilt, bitterness and hopelessness are a sort of internal guidance system. Negative emotions let us know that something in our lives is out of balance. They can provoke us to action, help us make decisions and alert us to emotional needs that are unmet. While emotional variety can spice up your life, remaining stuck in a prolonged negative emotional state is something to be avoided.

Exercise is one way to foster a positive state of mind and is one of the best things you can do to maintain your mental and physical well being. When the body is healthy and full of vitality the mind will follow. If your body doesn’t feel right, you won’t be in the mood to fully enjoy life and be happy. The hormone believed to be responsible for our feelings of happiness is known as an “endorphin.” The more endorphins we have in our bodies and reaching into our brains, the more content and happier we feel. Exercise has been found to raise the level of endorphins in the body and when this reaches the neurons of the brain, we experience a lifting of the happiness and contentment we feel.

Adopting a positive attitude and exercising takes commitment, planning and dedication. Be patient with yourself and follow your plan through. Strive for a regular routine, one that is realistic and manageable.

Don’t worry about being perfect, instead be kind and appreciate yourself for the person you already ARE. But it’s also very important to begin to make your new healthy lifestyle a “habit” of conscious decision and choice. Becoming a more healthy and happy person is the ultimate goal and the path towards a healthy lifestyle. ~Gena
